Our Intercessor and Our Advocate

Romans 8:26-27

26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

“As a believer, you are not left to your own resources to cope with problems. Even when you don’t know the right words to pray, the Holy Spirit prays with and for you, and God answers. With God helping you pray, you don’t need to be afraid to come before him. Ask the Holy Spirit to intercede for you ‘in accordance with the will of God.’ Then, when you bring your requests to God, trust that he will always do what is best.” (Life Application Study Bible 1891)

Our Intercessor and Our Advocate

Romans 8:34

34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

“Paul says that Jesus is interceding for us in heaven. God has acquitted us and has removed our sin and guilt, so it is Satan, not God, who accuses us. When he does, Jesus, the advocate for our defense, stands at God’s right hand to present our case. Praying from a Place of Rejoicing

When we pray, we should be praying from a place of rejoicing because we need to know that in every situation we have peace and we have God. And He takes care of all of our needs.

Philippians 4:4-7

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

What Are Our Priorities?

What does the Bible tell us about our needs and wants? So why are we praying for our needs and wants when we pray? Why don’t we pray for the will of God instead?

Philippians 4:19

19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 23:1

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Jeremiah 29:11

11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Praying for the Will of God

With so many distractions in the world and the decisions that we make everyday, have we ever prayed for the will of God in our prayers?

James 4:13-17

13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” 16 As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. 17 If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.
